no one that i know in real life has a livejournal page. people know i draw comics and they like to see my stuff but i don't carry my art around with me so the only thing they get to see is a finished book or the few times i bring my sketchbook around to show. so i finally got a myspace page to share with them.

i might post some stuff related to my regular life, rather then just art like i do here so if you want to friend me there to thats alright with me.

i had another thought about the sketchbook idea which is that maybe there could be a christmas or end of the year goal. that way everyone gets the book as a gift? anyone want to do this?

hey i had this idea that i want to run by everyone. what i was thinking is that everyone starts a sketchbook and just keeps working on it until they are done. they can post the drawings everyday or every once in awhile. whatever they like, i haven't really thought about it that much.

but here is where it gets cool, once the book is done you mail it off to ANOTHER artist who is also doing this project.

i would keep a list of everyone who is doing this. you let me know when you are finished and i send you the name and address of the cartoonist that will receive your book. then you mail it off and they get a nice gift. i was thinking about doing who gets who totally random but i might do one for one that way you know that your looking at the work of the person who is looking at yours.

the book could be any size or length that want. i don't have a deadline for finishing or anything, but i guess it could go that way if people want.

i'm looking only for people who would take this SERIOUS!!! since you'll be giving up your work for someone elses i don't want people who either will 1) not do the work 2) drop out of the project.

let me know what you think. i am looking for people who want to do this and any ideas you might have to organize it or rules and such. i want to do this myself so even if only one person wants to do this i'll trade you for your book.

hey for a few more drawings and to read my rambles..

so right now i'm working on a really big drawing. it will be my second attempt at getting a drawing on the covered blog, and its also going to be a gift for my friend. it's going to be a fantastic four drawing. i'm working much larger then i usually do and it's also in color. i have no idea how to color on a computer and i can't paint at all so i'm using markers.

here is my first drawing of the human torch. i kinda of liked it but i dont think this will be the final version. the color just looks so flat. then i did this drawing of the thing.

even though i was looking at jack kirby when i drew the fighting pose Thing i was really working hard on the drawing part. i tried to look at the thing and see how i should draw him. then i did the sad faced one, without looking at jack kirby at all, and it came out really well. i worked slow and steady and just built him up and up until it was ready for the color and the ink. then i did the same thing for this drawing of sue

i took my time and built her up. i did the round of the face then just a hint of the face. i added her hair and her neck. usually at that point i would go in with the ink but i just kept penciling. it's just a drawing so what the hell right? and again it turned out really well.

then something really strange happen. i was looking at the jack kirby pages and i started to see past the art. i started to see the underlining work of the page. i saw how to break down the characters and draw them fairly easy.

then i did the drawing of mary jane and peter. i was looking at john romita but i was looking for something more. again i just built up the drawing and built it up until it was finished.

i'm not really sure what is going on but i feel like i've somehow got past this wall that i've been beating my fist against for months and months.

doing these drawings really hit it home for me. the crystal one really stands out for me cause i sorta took the way i draw and put this new way of thinking in to it. it turned out really good.

i've noticed that the more and more i draw the more and more i'm able to just sit down and the pencil just flys across the page. penciling and inking this page took maybe 3 hours.

i really like artist who do fuild fight scenes. when i was reading batman year 100 by paul pope the thing i liked most was the motion he gave to batman. i think my own drawing style is kinda stiff, so my fight stuff isn't as good but i wouldn't mind at being know as "that guy who does those cool fight scences".

i've been buying some single issue comics latly. just totally random stuff. i've found some good stuff but this comic keeps standing out. i just really like it. the two artist, Greg Stump and David Lasky, really work well together.

looking on the internet computer i found out only one other issue was made. does anyone have it? cause i want it! LETS MAKE A DEAL!

i've never been very good at drawing people sitting down at tables. just something about showing their legs and making it look like they aren't sitting at a huge oversized table. this is the best one i have ever done.

here is part of a page from the story i'm doing. i think this is another good example of me trying to do more with the characters. here we see Eliza getting up and going through her morning.

Awhile back i spent some time talking about my comics to a friend that doesn't draw comics or even read them. she told me that i should really think about who the characters are. i should know stuff about them that i would never even put in a comic. stuff like favortie food, politacl views, what kind of music do they listen too?

it might seem silly but i actully spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of underwear Eliza would wear. she was raised by her uncle along with her brother Adam, though she basically raised herself. she has no female influce. so i thought she would just were something funtional, not really something that might seem sexy. but at the same time she is a girl who wants to be more like a girl. she knows that she is a tomboy but deep down she wants to be in a dress and swept off her feet. in the end i thought that a pair of black boy shorts seemed like the best choice.

so awhile back i picked up the first volume of All Star Batman, mostly on a whim. i hadn't read any of the single issues when they came out, and the only thing i really knew about the series was that it was always super super late, and that Batman called himself the Goddamn Batman a lot.

well, i finally got around to reading it, after i lent it to another friend to read, and i actully liked it. the way Batman is shown, as this crazy lunitic that enjoys beating the shit out of people, is so cool. i think that comic fans tend to get upset when people mess with there "icons" or whatever, but isn't the point of these series? to mess around with the characters and show them a different way? do people really just want to see the same story with the same character, but told by different people, over and over again?

the only thing i didn't really like about was that frank millar isn't drawing it. judging from the few covers he did i can't tell if the book would be better or worse, but it sure would be fun to look at.

a comic and a comic

i have a bunch of characters that i've drawn over and over in my skecthbook, but they have yet to be drawn in a actul comic. On this page i threw in four of those characters, the most dominate one being of course Jerkface, a character who was born out of my anger with my breakup from Andrea. i did a lot of comics staring him to help me get over her, all of which will never see print cause they are just way too dark and fucked up.

Also, you can finally buy Original Fish! It's three bucks for the comic and i'll throw in some other goodies too. and yes i totally want to trade you for your comic.

i don't do a lot of work in color. come to think of it i don't do a lot of work outside of comics at all. honestly i don't really want to do any other kind of art work. i don't like painting, or photographing or any of that stuff.

i kinda feel like this is a mistake. so i'm going to start doing some artwork that has nothing to do with comics what so ever. just so i can expand. my hope is that this will expand my artistic ability and make me a better cartoonist.
