| does this sound cool? |
[Sep. 7th, 2009|03:44 pm] |
hey i had this idea that i want to run by everyone. what i was thinking is that everyone starts a sketchbook and just keeps working on it until they are done. they can post the drawings everyday or every once in awhile. whatever they like, i haven't really thought about it that much.
but here is where it gets cool, once the book is done you mail it off to ANOTHER artist who is also doing this project.
i would keep a list of everyone who is doing this. you let me know when you are finished and i send you the name and address of the cartoonist that will receive your book. then you mail it off and they get a nice gift. i was thinking about doing who gets who totally random but i might do one for one that way you know that your looking at the work of the person who is looking at yours.
the book could be any size or length that want. i don't have a deadline for finishing or anything, but i guess it could go that way if people want.
i'm looking only for people who would take this SERIOUS!!! since you'll be giving up your work for someone elses i don't want people who either will 1) not do the work 2) drop out of the project.
let me know what you think. i am looking for people who want to do this and any ideas you might have to organize it or rules and such. i want to do this myself so even if only one person wants to do this i'll trade you for your book. |

i've noticed that the more and more i draw the more and more i'm able to just sit down and the pencil just flys across the page. penciling and inking this page took maybe 3 hours. |

i really like artist who do fuild fight scenes. when i was reading batman year 100 by paul pope the thing i liked most was the motion he gave to batman. i think my own drawing style is kinda stiff, so my fight stuff isn't as good but i wouldn't mind at being know as "that guy who does those cool fight scences". |

why should you buy a copy of Original Fish #1, or any other furture comics i might do? cause they happen to be liked by another awesome cartoonist. perhaps you've heard of him? his name is JEFFREY FUCKING BROWN.

i've been buying some single issue comics latly. just totally random stuff. i've found some good stuff but this comic keeps standing out. i just really like it. the two artist, Greg Stump and David Lasky, really work well together.
looking on the internet computer i found out only one other issue was made. does anyone have it? cause i want it! LETS MAKE A DEAL!

[Jun. 9th, 2009|11:33 am] |

i've never been very good at drawing people sitting down at tables. just something about showing their legs and making it look like they aren't sitting at a huge oversized table. this is the best one i have ever done. |

this will be the back cover for Original Fish #2, which is almost done. i don't really want to show all the comics for it, cause then people won't have a reason to buy them, but showing stuff like this is no prob.
i still have copies of OF #1 by the way. get it while you can! order info is in a previous post. |

[Jun. 2nd, 2009|11:03 am] |

so awhile back i picked up the first volume of All Star Batman, mostly on a whim. i hadn't read any of the single issues when they came out, and the only thing i really knew about the series was that it was always super super late, and that Batman called himself the Goddamn Batman a lot.
well, i finally got around to reading it, after i lent it to another friend to read, and i actully liked it. the way Batman is shown, as this crazy lunitic that enjoys beating the shit out of people, is so cool. i think that comic fans tend to get upset when people mess with there "icons" or whatever, but isn't the point of these series? to mess around with the characters and show them a different way? do people really just want to see the same story with the same character, but told by different people, over and over again?
the only thing i didn't really like about was that frank millar isn't drawing it. judging from the few covers he did i can't tell if the book would be better or worse, but it sure would be fun to look at. |

| a comic and a comic |
[May. 20th, 2009|03:35 pm] |

i have a bunch of characters that i've drawn over and over in my skecthbook, but they have yet to be drawn in a actul comic. On this page i threw in four of those characters, the most dominate one being of course Jerkface, a character who was born out of my anger with my breakup from Andrea. i did a lot of comics staring him to help me get over her, all of which will never see print cause they are just way too dark and fucked up.

Also, you can finally buy Original Fish! It's three bucks for the comic and i'll throw in some other goodies too. and yes i totally want to trade you for your comic. You can pay either with cash or money order. if you pay with a money order make sure you make it out to Zackery Jackson, which is my real name. if you have any questions leave a comment or email me at mcblastfish@hotmail.com

| sewers and an update |
[Apr. 20th, 2009|03:26 pm] |

does anyone else have the problem where you can see something perfect in your head when you are planning out the story but as soon as you start to draw it you realize that you have no idea how? that's what happen to me when I went to draw this sewer. i remember picturing it so clearly in my head but when i actually had to do it i had to do a few drawings to see the best way.
also an update on Original Fish #1, which is that i had it printed up but the pages came out lop sided. i showed it to the guy who runs the print shop and he didn't seem to care and he wouldn't print new ones until i paid for the ones he had already done. so i just walked out and left the pages.
there isn't a printer around here so i'll go looking for another one. |

| working hard |
[Apr. 8th, 2009|03:15 pm] |

so part of me getting more serious about comics is me being more aware of what my strengths are, and what my weaknesses are. i looked over my comics and tried to see where i feel like i lack, and what i feel like i do really well.
there isn't a lot of talking in my stories. people just do things, or stuff just happens. i'm trying to have the characters interact more. you can really tell a lot about a character by how they talk and what they have to say.
which is another thing i don't think i do very well: giving info on who people are, and what motivates their actions. for me comics are all about the characters in them not about the stories. the driving part of the story should be how the characters act in a situation.
one thing i think i do well is that i don't take it easy on the background details. i like drawing all the lines and the bricks and all that. but sometimes it looks to crowded so i'm trying to find a good balance.
this is a page from the story i'm doing now. i really think it does a good job of explaining the character relationship and gives you an idea of who the characters are. |

| you can finally buy my comics! |
[Mar. 16th, 2009|03:53 pm] |

after years of stupid delays and other retarted bullshit that i let get in the way i'm finally publishing a minicomic! I'm starting the Original Fish series all over, mostly for personal reasons, so it's a brand new number one.
it's alot different from the free version i put on the internet awhile back. some of that stuff is still in there, but there is also some new unseen stuff. it will be a total of 32 pages with 28 pages of comics for $3.00, though i am willing to trade for them too.
the reason i'm telling you this before i print them is i want to know how many people will want one. i was planning on including a little drawing on an index card so i need to see about how many more i should do. i also have some older comics still availabe if anyone is intrested. |

i've been reading the love and rockets books. i'm not really sure what to think about them. the art is really great, and the depth of the stories, be it the characters in it or even where the stories take place, are very rich and thought out, but sometimes i was just fucking lost. i had to reread parts to figure out what was going on. i think i'll keep buying them though. |

[Mar. 9th, 2009|03:33 pm] |

the book i'm most excited to read will be the collected version of Basewood by Alec Longstreth. it will a few years until the whole thing is finished though, so in the mean time i did this drawing of the yet unnamed main character. |
